TOPIC: A Checklist for Compliance - Ensuring Workplace Safety Under OSHA Hazard Communication Standard 2012
Date: Tuesday, April 09, 2013 at 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM CDT SIGN UP
Join Louisa Mayers, Director of Regulatory Services at MSDSpro, LLC, for a one-hour presentation on how OSHA HCS 2012 impacts US-based employers, the wholesaler and the distributor in particular.
This webinar covers the following topics:
- An overview of OSHA Hazard Communication Standard 2012 (HCS 2012)
- GHS label elements and changes to the Safety Data Sheet
- Employer obligations and deadlines for compliance with the revised HCS
- Checklist and resources to help employers fulfill the OSHA HCS 2012 requirement
Background: In 1983, OSHA enacted the Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) to ensure that the hazards of all chemicals produced or imported are classified, and that the information on the classified standards is communicated to employers and their employees through a comprehensive hazard communication program, container labeling, Material Safety Data Sheets and employee training.
On May 25, 2012, the HCS aligned with the United Nations Globally Harmonized System for the Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) to enhance both the employer and worker comprehension of chemical hazards and ensure appropriate handling and safe use of workplace chemicals. As such, US-based employers are obligated to meet a series of phase-in dates to comply with OSHA HCS 2012, starting with the requirement to train employees on the new GHS label elements and new Safety Data Sheet format by December 1, 2013.
Questions? Submit your OSHA HCS 2012 implementation questions when you register for the webinar. The presentation will address as many of your questions as possible, time permitting.
TOPIC: GHS and the US Manufacturer Labeling and Safety Data Sheet Revisions Under OSHA Hazard Communication Standard 2012
Date: Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM CDT SIGN UP
Join Louisa Mayers, Director of Regulatory Services at MSDSpro, LLC, for a one-hour presentation on how OSHA HCS 2012 changes labeling and Safety Data Sheets, and how the revised Standard impacts the product lifecycle from research and development to marketing, import/export challenges and training.
This webinar covers the following topics:
- An Overview of OSHA Hazard Communication Standard 2012 (HCS 2012)
- GHS Label Elements: Signal Words, Pictograms, Hazard and Precautionary Statements
- Changes to the Label and the Material Safety Data Sheet under OSHA HCS 2012
- GHS Classification of Substances and Mixtures
- Criteria to Evaluate a GHS SDS and Label Authoring Solution
Background: On May 25, 2012, the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) was aligned with the United Nations Globally Harmonized System for the Classification and Labeling of Chemicals ("GHS") to enhance both employer and worker comprehension of chemical hazards and ensure appropriate handling and safe use of workplace chemicals.
As a result, manufacturers must convert their existing United States Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) to conform with the GHS Safety Data Sheet (SDS) format under OSHA HCS 2012. Given the June 2015 deadline to convert these highly-regulated documents to the specified 16-section format, it is imperative that manufacturers devise and implement a strategic plan to ensure their finished product SDSs meet the current chemical regulations wherever their companies’ products are shipped, including the United States.
Questions? Submit your questions on OSHA HCS 2012 implementation, and SDS and label authoring when you register for the webinar. The presentation will address as many of your questions as possible, time permitting.
